4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador News:

The Colorado 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassadors represent 4-H and specifically 4-H Shooting Sports for public relations purposes at special events such as donor/supporter functions and with the general public, peer groups, 4-H groups, community service groups, schools and media contacts.

Ambassadors serve as spokespersons for the 4-H Shooting Sports program, helping to make 4-H and the 4-H Shooting Sports programs more visible. Shooting Sports Ambassador Activities:

Chaffee County National Rifle Association Banquet
Every year the National Rifle Association (NRA) donates money in the form of grants to 4-H shooting clubs all over the nation. These grants are used to buy guns, ammo, targets and supplies that the 4-H club might need. They have also given scholarships to the Whittington Centers Adventure Camp. Because of all they do for 4-H, it is an honor to help with their annual NRA banquet. This past April I was able to help set up for their banquet held in Salida, Colorado. It is always fun to meet the members and thank them for their support. They say it’s nice to put a face with a name of a 4-Her and that they are proud of helping 4-H. - Nathan Rivale

Colorado 4-H Ambassadors Compete at Nationals
The Colorado 4-H shooting sports ambassador team was well represented at the 2013 4-H National Invitational competition. Thirty-six teams from around the nation attended the competition held in Grand Island, Nebraska. Morgan Wallace, Derek Brown, Nathan Rivale, Patrick Telck, and Amy Telck were part of the 32 member team that represented the top 1% of the shooting sports competitors in the state.

Colorado sent a four member team for eight of the nine disciplines. Air pistol placed 8th as a team with Morgan placing 21st overall. Hunting/outdoor skills placed 4th as a team with Derek 9th and Nathan 18th overall. Recurve archery also placed 4th as a team with Patrick 3rd and Amy 15th overall.

Not only did the ambassadors compete, they were the first on the scene to help when the stage fell down, showing everyone what 4-H service, (Colorado style) is all about. We also met people from other states, whose love for 4-H was a strong as ours. I realized how fortunate we were to represent Colorado at Nationals, not just as competitors, but also as ambassadors. - Nathan Rivale
