4-H Home Environment Project >> Unit 7
This project is for member’s ages 8-18. Home Environment Unit 7 is for the advanced member who would like to do an independent study in this area. From this study, you will develop and report your project with the following guidelines:
Step 1: Select an area in home environment in which you have a special interest and wish to do an independent study. Some ideas for topics are:
- total home redecorating
- historic housing
- floor covering
- wall covering, etc.
Step 2: Develop a plan that includes:
- Goals for what you wish to learn
- How you will accomplish your goals
- Resources you will use to reach your goals
- How you will share with others what you learned
- And how you will evaluate whether you reached your goals
Step 3: Evaluate the study or activity you completed.
Step 4: Exhibit—Exhibit a written description of your project. Include goals, plans, accomplishments and evaluation. A display or other exhibit can be used to represent your study or activity, but it is optional.

Project Exhibit Rules for All Units
Project Exhibit Rules:
- Only the current year’s records should be submitted.
- The articles may be used before exhibiting but should be clean and in good condition when exhibited.
- All exhibit items must have the name, age, and county of the exhibitor attached. This information should be attached on the back and at the left-hand corner of the article.
Home Environment Unit 7
Exhibit will consist of the following:
- Completed e-Record emphasizing your plan and accomplishments in your story presented in a sturdy binder/notebook.
- Optional: Article or display representing learning from project.
- A drawing or other copy of a plan for the article exhibited must be included in the e-Record. The drawing does not have to be original or created by the exhibitor. The drawing or plan must include dimensions, list of materials used and a description of any changes in the article’s specifications made by the exhibitor. Reasons for changes must be described. The drawing or plan itself will not be judged. It is only for the judge’s use in judging the article exhibited. If the drawing is missing, the exhibit will not be ranked in the top-ten placings. The standardized display board size is 4' x 3' with sides that do not overlap, is to be used for 4-H projects.
