Advanced Child Development [ Senior - Unit 4 ]

This unit is for members ages 14 and older. This project will help youth learn more advanced skills about child development and understand about children from the infant age/stage through the early school-age/stage of 6 to 8. You’ll also learn about careers working with children. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:

  • Members complete a chapter and answer the questions end of the chapter
  • Develop skills in guidance and discipline for young children
  • Learn about appropriate activities related to nutrition, safety, and parties.
  • Explore a variety of careers that use child development knowledge and skills
  • Complete an educational exhibit about a topic related to the chapter studied in this unit and share the display to teach others what you have learned

Colorado State Fair and Local County Fair Exhibit Requirements

General Exhibit Requirements:

Project Exhibit Rules for All Units:

  1. Each piece must be labeled with exhibitor name, age and county. Each item in a kit must be labeled.
  2. Displays boards used for exhibits must meet size guidelines on page 3 (4’x3’). All other exhibits should fit within a 2’x2’x2’ space.
  3. Manual and records must be securely fastened in a sturdy binder/notebook. No binders with slider closures are allowed.

Senior Child Development [ Senior – Unit 4 ]

Member will select a chapter to study and prepare a creative exhibit suitable for area studied.

Guidance and Discipline
Exhibit will consist of the following:

  1. Completed e-Record and Child Development Manual presented in a sturdy binder/notebook.
  2. Senior Child Development Manual with completed activities in Guidance and Discipline Chapter and the completed Exhibit and More To Grow On questions at the end of the Guidance and Discipline Chapter.
  3. Exhibit based on a More To Grow On activity from the Guidance and Discipline Chapter OR an activity developed by the member that is appropriate for Guidance and Discipline Chapter.

Parties
Exhibit will consist of the following:

  1. Completed e-Record and Child Development Manual presented in a sturdy binder/notebook.
  2. Senior Child Development Manual with completed activities in Parties Chapter and the completed Exhibit and More To Grow On questions at the end of the Parties Chapter.
  3. Exhibit based on a More To Grow On activity from the Parties Chapter OR an activity developed by the member that is appropriate for Parties.

Mealtime
Exhibit will consist of the following:

  1. Completed e-Record and Child Development Manual presented in a sturdy binder/notebook.
  2. Senior Child Development Manual with completed activities in Mealtime Chapter and the completed Exhibit and More To Grow On questions at the end of the Mealtime Chapter.
  3. Exhibit based on a More To Grow On activity from the Mealtime Chapter OR an activity developed by the member that is appropriate for Mealtime.

Safety
Exhibit will consist of the following:

  1. Completed e-Record and Child Development Manual presented in a sturdy binder/notebook.
  2. Senior Child Development Manual and the completed Exhibit and More To Grow On questions at the end of the Safety Chapter.
  3. Exhibit based on a More To Grow On activity from the Safety Chapter OR an activity developed by the member that is appropriate for Safety.

Careers
Exhibit will consist of the following:

  1. Completed e-Record and Child Development Manual presented in a sturdy binder/notebook.
  2. Senior Child Development Manual with completed activities in Careers Chapter and the completed Exhibit and More To Grow On questions at the end of the Careers Chapter.
  3. Exhibit based on a More To Grow On activity from the Careers Chapter OR an activity developed by the member that is appropriate for Careers.
