4-H Scholarship due Date Change
Please note that the deadline for all state 4-H Scholarships has been changed to April 1, 2008. This was done so your 4-H members can receive the scholarships at their high school awards programs or graduations. The 4-H Foundation is in the process of updating the Universal Form and will have it posted on the State 4-H Website as soon as it is available.
The scholarships include:
- Colorado Agricultural Development Authority Scholarships
- Portouw Family 4-H Photography Scholarship
- Howard and Marjory Smith Scholarship
- Holthaus Scholarship
- Kimberling Scholarship
- Audrey Sandstead Scholarship

Catch-A-Calf
National Western Stock Show time is fast approaching! Please encourage youth in your county to apply for the Catch-A-Calf program sponsored by the National Western Stock Show.
The National Western Stock Show Catch-A-Calf Program is a great program designed to promote youth development and understanding of the cattle feeding industry. This program can provide youth with an opportunity to be part of one of the best programs at the National Western Stock Show. Youth are encouraged to manage their projects from the mindset of commercial cattle feeding.
Applicants must be between the ages of 12 and 18 as of Dec. 31, 2007 to apply, and also enrolled in 4-H at the time of application. Successful catchers must have adequate facilities available to house their steer as they are responsible for the care, feeding, and handling of their animal.
Applications are due to my office postmarked no later than Dec. 28, 2007. Applications are posted on http://nationalwestern.com/cac. 2008 Leadership Development Conference and
4-H Day at the Capitol
LDC and 4-H Day at the Capitol is scheduled for Jan. 25-28, 2008. The conference will be held at the Marriott Denver City Center. Rooms are $115 per night and conference registration is $130 per person.
Highlights for this year’s conference include:
- Community Service Project with the Children’s Hospital coordinated by the
- Colorado State 4-H Officer Team
- IFYE presentation from the 2007 IFYE delegates
- 4-H Night at the Denver Nuggets – Friday Evening
- County Night Out in Downtown Denver – Saturday Evening
- Banquet and Awards Presentation – Sunday Evening
On Friday, Jan. 25, attendees are encouraged to participate in the Colorado 4-H Night at the Nuggets. Saturday morning we will offer a new addition to the program with the Science, Engineering and Technology (S.E.T.) tour.
Monday, Jan. 28, is 4-H Day at the Capitol where the legislature will proclaim January 28 Colorado 4-H Day. Tours of the Capitol will be available as well as an informal question and answer session with legislators, aids and interns.

Attention Nuggets Fans!!!
Colorado 4-H Night with the Denver Nuggets will be Friday, Jan. 25, 2008. Come help support the premiere youth organization in Colorado and see Carmelo, AI and the rest of the Nuggets battle it out against Jason Kidd, Vince Carter and the New Jersey Nets! Game time is 7 pm.
Tickets are $20 per person for upper level and $45 per person for club level. Every ticket purchased through this special offer includes access to the 4-H VIP room on the club level and a post-game shoot-around on the Pepsi Center’s court.
Bring your sleeping bag….the Nuggets are hosting a sleepover! Those purchasing tickets to support 4-H also have the opportunity to sign-up to stay the night in the Pepsi Center.

National Western Stock Show Discounted Tickets
All 4-H members, families and friends, and their invited guests are eligible for discounted prices on reserve seating at the National Western Stock Show. The prices offered are unavailable to the general public and tickets purchased through this special offer are free of all service charges, an additional savings of $3.75 per ticket. (Tickets must be purchased through Group Services. Discounts will not be given at the Stock Show Box Office.)
The National Western Stock Show invites all 4-H members to enjoy their personal favorite(s) shows, and to spend a day full of fun that will include numerous opportunities to be entertained by the exhibits, shopping, art, delicious food and western spirit. (Your show ticket includes free grounds admission to all exhibits, all day long 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.)
You will receive a $2 discount off of the regular price for the majority of their shows. In honor of “4-H Day,” which is on Wednesday, Jan. 23, you will receive a $3 discount off of the regular price for both Pro Rodeos that day. For the Pro Rodeo at 2:00 p.m., tickets will be $9 each, and for the Pro Rodeo at 7:30 p.m., tickets will be $11 each. Again, these tickets must be purchased through Group Services.
