These awards support 4-H leaders, junior leaders (youth between 14 and 19 years of age) and alumni who provide leadership and support to 4-H Youth Development educational programs. They help to provide a positive learning environment for Colorado youth. The awards enable individuals to be recognized for outstanding efforts on behalf of others within the 4-H program and their community. These awards recognize individuals for:
- Leadership in elected and appointed positions
- Positive impacts of their efforts on behalf of youth and their communities
- Service provided to their community
- Personal growth due to participation in the program
- Outstanding service to the 4-H program
- Personal achievement
- Continued participation in leadership roles
Each county may nominate two leaders, junior leaders and alumni for recognition. Recipients are selected by a committee in June the year prior to recognition. Those selected receive their recognition and plaques during the recognition program at Leadership Development Conference.
Adult and youth strive for excellence in their volunteer roles at the club, county, district, and state levels, thereby increasing personal involvement and commitment to the 4-H program. Please take time to nominate (applications attached) the deserving individuals in your county. These are due in the State 4-H office by June 1. — Connie Cecil

Camp Round-UP
Colorado State University’s Department of Animal Sciences is excited to offer “Camp Round-UP,” an animal agriculture educational program for youth ages 14-18. The camp will be held from June 16-19, 2007. CSU students and staff are working with animal science faculty, graduate students, and members of the agricultural community to make the camp a highly educational opportunity for urban and rural students alike. Campers will learn about equine, beef, dairy, sheep, swine, poultry and meat industries during their 3-day experience. It is designed to offer camp-goers a fun, hands-on learning experience with a concentration on science, math, and technology. Camp Round-UP will take place on the CSU campus as well as at ARDEC. In addition, several tours of local agricultural facilities are being planned to help apply what they have learned.
Youth ages 14-18 are encouraged to register for the camp quickly, as spaces are limited. The registration fee of $350 includes three nights in the dormitories, meals, fun evening activities, transportation and a Camp Round-UP T-shirt. Additionally, if one organization registers and brings six students, an adult sponsor can attend for FREE. Camp scholarships are also needed to make this camp a reality to those campers who cannot otherwise afford to attend.
Youth, families, community organizations and donors interested in finding out more about Camp Round-UP, are encouraged to contact Jennifer Berg-Ramsey, Camp Coordinator, at Jennifer.Berg-Ramsey@colostate.edu or 970.689.1140. Camp Information, brochures, posters, and sponsorship opportunities can also be found on the CSU Department of Animal Science’s website at http://ansci.colostate.edu/ going to “Quick Links” and clicking on “Camp Round-UP.” — Ellen Butler
