On-line IRS Employer Identification Numbers

New 4-H clubs and affiliated organizations should apply for an Employer Identification Number. I think that all banks require these for clubs setting up any kind of account. The easiest way is to go to the IRS web site at: http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=102767,00.html.

Two-thirds of the way down the page is the hotlink to “Apply Online Now.” Specific instructions:

  • Line 8A you’ll need to check the “Other non-profit” box, and enter the group exemption number “2704.”
  • Line 14 should be checked “Other” and write “education” on the line.

There is a PDF file attached to clarify any other questions you may have. Please call if you have more!

JCPenney Associates Seeking Volunteer Opportunities With 4-H

In celebration of JCPenney’s 105th Anniversary, the company is inviting their associates, families and friends to volunteer with organizations in their community as a thank you to those who have supported them over the years.

National 4-H Council is partnering with JCPenney in their efforts by identifying 4-H clubs, programs and events that need volunteers between April 10-30, 2007. If you are interested in having JCPenney associates volunteer with your 4-H program, please click here to complete a short survey. If your program is chosen, a National 4-H Council or JCPenney employee will contact you for more information. Please note that the survey will end on March 22, 2007.

Please pass this information on to other 4-H friends in your community! If you have any questions, please contact: CC Morgan, National 4-H Council 4-H Afterschool Coordinator at 301.961.2819 or 4hafterschool@fourhcouncil.edu.

CYFERnet Mission of the Month

CYFERnet Technology is creating a handout and poster to promote its "Mission of the Month" component. If you happen to have digital photos of your group participating in any "Mission" activities since November 2006 (GIS treasure hunts, space parties, digital media show-and-tell, Black History Month or National Engineers Week, etc.), they would love to have them. Your images may be used in the handout and/or poster, or in future support materials for CYFERnet.

High-resolution (300 dpi) color jpegs are preferred, but lower-resolution photos can also be used for the Web site. In sending the photos, you are confirming that you have valid media releases on file (from the individuals in the photos) that allow CYFERnet/CYFAR to use the photos for posters, presentations, the Web site and other CYFAR/Extension purposes.

Please e-mail the photos to danie419@umn.edu as soon as you find time. If you are sending several high-resolution photos, please e-mail just two or three at a time so they don't bounce back.

NOTE: Within the body of your e-mail, be sure to include the following:

1) The photographer's credit (for their records)
2) Approximate date the photo was taken
3) Your CYFAR/4-H program name and location (city and state)
4) A brief description of the Mission activity featured in the photo
5) A brief statement that confirms you have a photo release

Visit http://www.cyfernet.org/4htech/missions.html for complete information on the "Mission of the Month," and thanks in advance for any photos you provide!
