Interstate Exchange Opportunity
Winnebago County, WI is interested in an interstate exchange with Colorado. They have 15 participants, both boys and girls, from 13–18 years of age. Winnebago County is located just west of Lake Winnebago.
They offer activities such as touring a cheese factory and some farms, tubing down one of their many rivers, visiting Green Bay and touring the Packer Hall of Fame, the State Capitol in Madison, and the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) in Oshkosh. They are also willing to accommodate any requests you may have if at all possible. They have hosted and traveled in the past to Kansas, Pennsylvania, and Texas. They have no preference as to traveling first or hosting first.
Possible dates to consider are: June 11 to 17; June 24 to July 9; and July 15 to Aug 1. They are open to other suggestions as well.
Below are their expectations:
Expectations when traveling to Wisconsin:
- All adults over the age of 18 in the host family house are either a 4-H leader or have attended a host family orientation, which includes a background check.
- Minimum age to drive as part of the exchange is 21. Teens will not be allowed to drive other teens.
- Refrain from overuse of electronic devises including cell phones and computers.
Before they agree to an exchange they need to know:
- Host families – are the parents and/or other adults in the household 4-H leaders and/or have they had a recent background check?
- What is the policy of youth driving other youth? We ask that traveling youth and adults refrain from riding with drivers under 21 years of age.
Please contact Laurie Behm, Winnebago County Interstate Advisor, at 920.410.3217 if you have questions or are interested in an exchange.
