OOo Installation Procedure [ stage 2 ]

It is important to note that if you only wish to work on the locked .doc files that are created by the Colorado State 4-H office, you really only need to install the Writer tool that is part of the OOo Office Suite. Unless you plan to work with spreadsheets, databases, etc, there is no need to use up more of your hard drive than you really need to. Below, we will outline the procedure that you should follow if you wish to install only the Writer application. If you wish to install the entire OOo Office Suite, just follow the easy instructions that they provide with the executable file.

Installation Procedure:

  1. At the time of the creation of this installation CD, the most current version of OOo was 2.0.4. You can check to see if there is a more current version of OOo by pointing your browser here:
    http://www.openoffice.org
    From the OOo website, click on the link to Get OpenOffice.org (the version number may even be listed in the link). If there is a more current version and if you have a fast internet connection, please feel free to download the latest version instead of using the installation files on this CD.
  2. If you plan to use one of the installation files included with this CD, please select the appropriate link below based on the operating system your computer is running. When you click the link, your computer should ask you if you wish to save the file. If not, right click on the link and specify that you wish to "Save target as" or "Save link as", and save the file to some place on your computer's hard drive. Please remember where you saved the file. A convenient place to save the file is often times to your Desktop.

  3. If you wish to only install the Writer application and not the rest of the Office Suite, please continue with the helpful instructions that are located on the next page ( after you have downloaded the appropriate installation file from above ). If you plan to install the entire office suite, then go ahead and double click on the installation file and proceed through the "Complete" installation. Otherwise, proceed to the next page and learn how you can install just the Writer application.
